TEACHING ARRANGEMENTS

Pre-instrumental Programme – In preparation for the commencement of instrumental tuition, all pupils participate in a pre-instrumental programme. First introduced in 2005 for P4 pupils, this programme has proved enormously beneficial, as it focuses on the development of pitch and rhythm skills and offers an exciting and enjoyable musical experience prior to the introduction of instruments.

Instrumental tuition usually begins at KS2, but may commence at a later stage, depending on the availability of tutor time and suitable instrument(s).

The instrumental teaching arrangements are as follows:

Primary – Pupils are taught in groups of 2 or more (average 8-10 pupils per hour) throughout key Stage 2.

Post Primary – In order to continue to provide a quality service which is both affordable and accessible, tuition is normally arranged for pupils in groups of 2-4 per session. Sessions range from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on skill level, instruments and/or school timetabling. Individual lessons may be provided in exceptional circumstances, subject to availability and following discussion between Music Service, school, pupil and parent/guardian.
